Pastor’s Corner – 03 February, 2013

And he said also unto his disciples, There was a certain rich man, which had a steward; and the same was accused unto him that he had wasted his goods. And he called him, and said unto him, How is it that I hear this of thee? give an account of thy stewardship; for thou mayest be no longer steward.”  – Luke 16: 1-2

My dearly beloved “FAMILY”

We thank and Praise God for having spared us to cross over to this the beginning days of the second month of 2013, February.  It is a month in which we celebrate and observe the contributions of African Americans to American life and history.  In reflection without a doubt we have come a long way, but yet we have a long way to go.

The past month was rich and rewarding in every way.  And although our attendance was down largely due to the changing weather patterns and the accompanying flu epidemic, those who were blessed to be in attendance were blessed by fellowship, the Ministry of inspiring Music, and the proclamation of the Word of God.

As we embark upon another month, I want to call to your attention the passage cited above.  As Pastors we address a number of matters in our Messages, but seldom do we address and dwell on a matter of STEWARDSHIP.  The real truth is that Jesus came teaching and preaching STEWARDSHIP during His earthly ministry.  He used the word “steward” or stewardship on numerous occasions.  It was not a “sound bite”, but a truth to get his followers  both then and now to be properly focused and the privileged associate with being one of His followers, one of his disciples.  In the familiar parable, he raised one of the most probing questions in holy writ – What is this I hear about you? Give me an account of your stewardship.  The Lord was talking about more than money, He is addressing the whole life of believers.  Yes MONEY is important, it is much needed by our Church and Churches to beef up and stay on target with our budget.  When people are truly aligned with Christ, they will give their TITHES and OFFERINGS; and freely give of their TIME and TALENTS to advance the cause of Christ.  The Question to each of us from the Pulpit to the PEW, from the front Row to the BACK Row – are we being fair with God??  Yes TITHING IS OUR WAY, God expects our TIME, TALENTS and MEANS – STEWARDSHIP this is a bible Doctrine and acknowledges of gratitude.  For what God has done, is doing and shall do for us, in Christ Jesus.  It is a call to Sacred commitment, mindful of our indebtedness to our Lord. WE ARE DEBTORS.

This last point, not only are individual believers in Christ are asked to give on account of their STEWARDSHIP, but ultimately the corporate body, the CHURCH will be held accountable for its’ STEWARDSHIP.  The bottom line is not to major in “minor things”, but to major in that which is of eternal value.  My prayer is that our Church will embark upon this New Year with renewed determination to LOVE GOD MORE and SERVE HIM BETTER ever mindful of the “DIVINE Call to STEWARDSHIP.”

The month of February is now before us.  Let this be a month to give our unstinted support to all of our regular Services and special activities.  And more importantly as followers of Christ to be fired up on the true Spirit Of Evangelism.  Yes each one, win one to Christ in 2013.

“Finally, let us continue to be much in prayer for our students in the public schools, colleges or university, our sick and shut-in, bereaved, caregivers, and for suffering humanity everywhere.  Also, let us lift up in prayer, President Obama as he gives leadership during these trying and most difficult times, in this his second term of office.

Be Blessed,

R.M. Leffall, III , Senior Pastor
